Curriculum Information

The Reading Vision

At Dorchester, we want all pupils to secure fluency in reading by the end of Key Stage 1, as we believe that this will help them access all areas of the curriculum as they progress through the school. We want pupils to develop a love of reading, so offer them access to a wide range of texts. Teacher’s read to pupils on a daily basis, to engross them in stories. We want pupils to be able to understand what they have read and answer increasingly more complex questions as they move through year groups.

The Writing Vision

At Dorchester, we want pupils to become competent writers so that they are able to communicate to an audience. We want them to understand and use the different grammatical structures in order to write cohesive pieces. Through our well-chosen and structured curriculum, pupils will use increasingly more complex language and sentence-structures.
